Talking to other players in chat ?

Hey guys first of all I'm new here and to the game , so a big Hearty Piratey Hello to Everyone !

Just wondering about a couple of things,

Can you whisper to other players in anyway ? it seems pretty standard in most mmo's now but could'nt find out how to to it

and is there a way to speed up trvel n the open sea ? even on the speed its on now it takes an age to go any great distance

one other thing is there a quick way of exiting combat mode ?
