Big help if you're going to start ascending Hardcore - Ascend as a seal clubber first and save double-fisted skull smashing. Wand of Nagamar is 1-h as well as an Antique Spear OR Star Spatula = 180 or 230 Power.

I'm not really sure if my outfit is all that original, but here it is:

H: Wolf Mask
S: Star Shirt
N: Wand of Nagamar (Normal Hand)
O: Antique Spear (Offhand)
P: Furry Pants
A1: Giant Pinky Ring ---- Interchangable with Plexiglass/Stainless

Familiar: Ghost Pickle on a Stick
Legendary Items are interchangable as well.

cabbageman: the wand still works if it's in your offhand. You can wield the spear onhand, getting more damage. (This is also an excellent trick for shillelaghs. )

Also, Fujihoo... or whatever it was... is right. Since the WoN is only 30 power, and thus doesn't do much anyway, you should always put your second weapon as your main.

Chaos butterfly...a theory that if a butterfly way back in time had gone to the left of a certain tree instead of the right, it would enact a chain of events that would grow to such proportions that the dinosaurs would never have come to be.

Well, that's not the actual theory, but that's the way it's applied here.

From the start of my run, I make sure to pick up the things I will need for the lair as I go along. I'm so used to it now but for my first few runs I kept a list in my quest notes that I could refer to regularly.

I do as soon as I hit level 11. I know some people have been at it a lot longer than me. I'm about halfway through my 22nd run, my 5th one in hardcore and have no problems with the lair and NS.

After I get past the three doors.gates and the mirror, I use the soft green eyedrops to remove the effects from the wussiness potion and black candle. The sugar rush usually doesn't bother me enough so I often just leave it to wear off on its own.

For the hedge maze I use a potion or two to up my stats if I can't make myself strong and resistent enough with equipment. At level 11 I usually need to fiddle with my equipment and math to figure out if I need certain potions to cap it off. I don't do it the same everytime, sometimes I just let my moxie stay low and take the hits relying on having enough HP, damage absorbing equipment, heavy melee or spell damage. Other times I take something for moxie so I am not getting hit during the few rounds it takes me to defeat a golem. I will either use my heavies mushroom familiar or my NPZR while I'm in the maze, depending on my stats and my mood.

The tower is all a matter of having all the proper combat items before going in so you don't get beaten up and waste adventures. You will face 6 out of 12, it varies for each person each run so it's best to just have all 12 special combat items. Each enemy has one specific item that defeats it otherwise it is virtually undefeatable.

I have noticed that when I'm playing a mysticality class, my HP tend to be on the low side so when I face my shadow self, I use an item or two to increase my max HP. When it's been too low I've actually not lasted the 4 rounds even when going in with my hp at their (unbuffed) max. Adding just a few points to my max solves that problem though so if you are a mysticality class and your muscles is the bare minimum to get to the tower, keep that in mind.

For the NS:
I pretty much always go with the furry suit and my NPZR. Before I built my NPZR in my fourth run I used my mosquito but now think my cocoboo probably would have been better. Because I have the NPZR I never bother with combat items or healing potions, I beat her on the first or sometimes second try without them. If you don't have a familiar that can heal your MP and HP then you will need to have a lot of potions handy but you might want to save them and your combat items until you've been beaten up by the NS a few times first. She really does get easier to deal with after a few tries( I call these prep rounds). From what I understand, it doesn't count if you run away so let her beat you up. Do not use any potion or skill buffs on yourself or your familiar because the NS removes them when you enter her chamber. This means she also removes beat-up effects so you don't need to worry about removing it with eyedrops for another prep round. I would recommend that you do remove the beat up effect and bring your HP and MP to their full max before facing the NS for serious attempts where you will be using combat items and potion. Have a lot because she takes a lot of things from you before you get a chance to use them. Start using healing potions before you are too close to getting beaten because it can take a few attempts before you actually manage to ingest one due to her interference.

For muscle classes:
With double fisted I equip a batblade in my main hand and use the necessary one in my off-hand. I use my batblade for most of the batttle because it's easy, effective, and I don't have to rely on MP. I usually use some damaging accessories like gloves or even an acid squirting flower.
Without double-fisted I equip the necessary weapon and usually flaming claws in my offhand. Because I'd be using thrust-smack or headbutt a lot I might equip an amulet of extreme plot significance in addition to damange increasing accessories.

For mysticality classes:
I use the necessary weapon in my mainhand and the kickback cookbook in my offhand. Since damage is capped I usually won't bother with more spell power boosting accessories as the cookbook is enough for me. To give me more HP I'll equip walrus tusk and/or hamethyst earings. clown noses would be the next best thing in the absence of either of those. I usually will also wear an acid squirting flower. Generally my myst is high enough that I'm satisfied with my MP but if I did not have a familiar that rejuvenated me I might also wear an amulet. I use the minor ray or stream of sauce for most of the battle.


I have only ever done one moxie class run (but I'm going DB then AC theif soon in HC) so don't have much to say for NS strategies when fighting moxie class. I disco face jab was very useful though when I did fight her as a DB.

Since MagiMechTechNanoMechaMechs were introduced, they should be equipped in addition to teh acid-squirter for maximum attack repercussions.
