Default Ettin Rune Farming

So I had spent a lot of time in this game flat broke, that was until November 2005 when I started Rune Farming.

After just 3 runs totalling 5 hours work I made in excess of 140k which was better by far than any previous farming attempt. I started not long after reaching the Ascalon Settlement but came back to start farming seriously after capping cleave (this was well before reaching the fire islands) and buying a set of Droknars Gladiators armour.

I used an Axe build with Mending, Balthazars Spirit, Flurry, Cleave, Penetrating Blow, Disrupting Chop, Executioners Strike & Sprint, but these were just what suited me best with the limited skills and resources I had available, it could work with many differing builds.

Ok so here's what to do:
1. Load in Beetletun and run straight across Nebo Terrace toward the portal to North Kryta Province ignoring all enemies here (these ettins aren't the ones we want and have never dropped me a Superior rune, although I did get a black dye once), The path is shown below:

2. Cast mending, balths spirit & run through the ascalon settlement. Fight the ettins here and work your way through the valley, Giants Basin and along the grassy cliffs to the last batch of ettins (almost to where you do the shard quest that you get in Lions Arch).

3. run through the portal to Soundrels Rise
4. Go back to North Kryta Province

5. Follow the route in reverse, through to Ascalon Settlement and Nebo Terrace
6. Go back to North Kryta Province
7. Repeat this process until your inventory is full of runes as shown below:
