I think the system is awesome as it is, but it's limited by the fact that one can only view the last week of market activity. That's good for people looking to day-trade, but it doesn't really do much for the long-term investor.
The price fluctuations that occur during a week are far less interesting to me than patterns that emerge over months, or years. |

Yes, a longer available range of historical data would be fantastic. It would be even better if the user was able to select a time period over which to display the average price per unit. So, for instance, I could see which items were most valuable over the last 30 days and the last week in addition to seeing which items are selling at the highest prices right now (especially since a lot of the more esoteric items don't sell often enough to even HAVE a daily price on the Marketplace). Unless I'm mistaken, the current history is only tracked back for X number of sales, which means that for a fairly rare item or an item that just doesn't sell much, the graph will date back much further than an item that sells hundreds a day.
I would also like to see some additional methods of tuning out the outlier prices from raffles, people buying from their own stores, etc. The Marketplace is my favorite out-of-game resource, so I'm excited to see what the revamp will bring. You guys do a great job. Thanks for that, and for asking us what we think. |

Ooh I have one. Since most complaints are about some specific complaint of finding out something for very specific to their needs, how about a more powerful way to filter results. Currently we can sort by one characteristic and filter by choosing a category. If we had a way to use more powerful user-defined filters we could exclude a category/categories, define only certain ranges be be included when displaying data, etc. which might be a hefty task. One person asked for a way to download the data raw, I suggest RSS.
Also, could the price ticker be in Ajax because the Java applet really freezes up my computer. Fasterfox just reported the page load to be 152.900s (it actually hung) while the Java IRC client loaded in 5.930s, this is on my slower dialup computer mind you. |

Firstly, raw data is impossible to distribute. Our raw data is actually every transaction in the game. That would be impossible to hand out. Filtering by item type would be much more useful, I can see...would it be easy to use the categories we've already created for Items here: Chillin' and Loathin' at Coldfront - The official Kingdom of Loathing fansite - Items

That's not what I meant by raw data. "Raw data" to us is what we get from Asymmetric, namely, the details of every transaction made in the mall. Prices, obviously, are easy to lookup, but EVERY transaction from the day takes power to process.

How about being able to see the consolidated statistics (quantity and Avg PPU) from yesterday? I can calculate Yesterday's PPU doing a little math with the "Today's PPU' and "Difference from Yesterday" info. But the only way to know how many units were sold in a given day is to look at it durring rollover...

IMHO it would be really nice if you could type in a name (or perhaps partial name, the the mall) and see the matching item(s).
Failing that, there's one interface nuisance that could be fixed. Why not put the filter dropdown on the marketplace front page so we don't have to visit the (painfully slow) "whole list" page first? I realize I don't have to actually wait for the entire list to load, but don't like the loud creaking noises my browser makes. Last edited by ManaUser : August 5th, 2007 at 11:46 AM. |
