After some time as a monk it seemed like the only times I was ever really losing allies was when they were stupid and took off by themselves out of my heal range, I mistimed divine intervention(I suck), or when the enemy team was AOE heavy and I couldn't heal everyone at the same time.
After reading this (long) http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?...man+with+pants it seems like this is a great tactic. Any ideas to cope?

I'm not 100% sure on your question Pants. Are you asking for effective ways to heal through an AE? Anyhow my first suggestion would be, dont stand in it. If you are all grouped up you could try a heal area but thats kinda pointless to bring with you as a monk healer primary there are much better spells. If you are wondering what spells I'd suggest for a primary healer, think about divine boon definitely, Word of Healing is great, Shielding Hands and Healing Hands are also invaluable, and orison of healing if you need an extra heal now and then. Please clarify your question and I'll be happy to answer.

I had all those skills on my char as well some remove condition effect spells
I guess I'm not so much concerned with what skills the monk specifically should bring, but how shoyuld a group counter an AOE heavy team. Split up? Spam Heal Party? I was thinking that since you have usually 2 monks anyway, you could attack from 2 sides to reduce damage, but if they then switch to DD and target one side it's game over.

Hi Pants,
Here's my suggestion. We often encounter heavy AOE groups and the absolute best thing to do is seperate yourselves. I don't mean to scatter to different corners of the map, i just mean to keep a little distance on the battlefield, and above all else, when you are hit with a shower spell, MOVE OUT OF THE AREA right away. Most of the shower spells have a very limited range and when you see the spell hit you, you should have sufficient time to get outa the area of effect. So there you have it. Another suggestion I have is that most of the deadly AE's in the game right now are fire based. Boost up your fire resistance with armor and it will help a lot. My current elemetalist has full Pyromancer armor and takes very little damage from firestorms. Hope this helps, if not I'm happy to give it a go again. Valus |

Alittle late to reply but i'll throw in my suggestions.
The best counter to an aoe heavy build is organized chaos. Stay spread out enough so that any given AOE will only effect 1 person, and never stay in aoe's if possible. To counter choke-point AOE spammage, have a warrior bring charge. Charge is a pbaoe run buff. Gather arouned the warrior before you rae going to rush through said choke-point, the warrior casts charge, and you bust arse through the choke point like no tommorow. Once you get away from the choke point and penetrate the "line of defense" that the choke-point creates, the caster heavy group should crumble. |
